Located on the Isle Saint Hélène, Jean-Drapeau Park is a beautiful green space in the middle of Montréal. The islands were partially built using the earth removed during the excavation work for Montréal’s métro system.
The easiest ways to access the park are by metro, it has it’s own stop on the Longueuil line, and by Jacques-Cartier bridge.
Jean-Drapéau park has a lot of mature trees and wide green lawns, there is plenty of space for children to run about and for adults to laze around on the grass during a hot and sunny day.
If you fancy walking or exploring, there is a lot to do on the park. Montréal’s foremost amusements can be found at “La Ronde”. If you like roller-coasters this is the place for you. Be warned through, car parking is not cheap so if you can come by métro.
Elsewhere in the park, you will find the biosphere, a Buckminsterfullerene built for the expo67 which houses an environmental museum. The Biosphere surprised us for two reasons: firstly we expected it to contain glass and secondly they used pesticides next to an environment museum.
Also on the island is an outdoor swimming complex that is open during the summer months.
Car parking on the island is rather expensive. La Ronde has its own car park which is around $9 and the rest of the carparks operate on a pay and display system with a minimum fee of $2 for an hour’s parking.
